Will Smith, Meet Urkel ….. :-)

images8
President
Barack Obama

Well, by all accounts, President Obama’s (Non) State of the Union Address has been received very positively across party lines.  I certainly liked it.  For once, I have a feeling that we listened to somebody who has an understanding of complex issues, and will tackle the enormous problems we are facing with common sense pragmatism.  That alone is refreshing.

The terrible state of our economy will present President Obama with an opportunity to push through major policies that are actually beneficial for the average person, not unlike FDR was able to do during a time of crisis.  And if his speech is any indication, we will see some major changes, from laying the ground work for some kind of Universal Health Care, to making major progress in the areas of energy independence and education reform, to bringing combat troops home from Iraq, etc.

With his overwhelming election victory and high approval ratings, he will have the wind in his back, and a lot of big things Democrats have been wanting to do for a long time, are all of a sudden on the table.  As the Republican Party with their spiritual leader Rush Limbaugh, are becoming more and more irrelevant, the public in the latest poll clearly stated that we want President Obama to lead on all issues, and the Republicans to work constructively with him and Democrats.  That of course hasn’t happened so far, and my suggestion to them is just this:  If you continue your ‘Just say no’ approach, you do it at your own peril, as we are very tired of it, and things are too bad out here to mess around right now.  We thought we sent you a message in the last election.  Just in case you didn’t get it, we will send it again in the next election…

Governor
Bobby Jindal

As for Gov. Jindal who gave the Republican response…  We’ve already heard enough criticism from each side, even most conservatives, so I will just let that stand.  But to suggest that the Federal Government in a time of crisis and people’s unease, and the private sector failing, has no role to play, when it is right now the only entity that can get this economy going again, is totally tone deaf.  So he was a perfect representative of today’s Republican Party…..  🙂

Sen. Jim Bunning, R-KY: Ignorance On Display

images21
Senator Jim Bunning

Boy, why does it seem that every time Kentucky makes national political news, it has to do with the ignorance and idiocy of one or both of our Republican Senators who unfortunately are representing the good people of Kentucky in the US Senate?

Latest example, Sen. Jim Bunning, whose mental fitness was already in question during his last re-election campaign, because of some very odd and strange behavior, now has totally gone off the cliff.  In remarks over the weekend, for which he has apologized in the meantime, he affirmed his support for conservative judges by mentioning that one of the liberal judges on the Supreme Court, Ruth Bader Ginsberg is suffering from pancreatic cancer and Jim Bunning, with the charm he is known for, predicted her death before the year is out, and I quote  “Ruth Bader Ginsberg suffers from cancer…bad cancer…the kind you don’t get better from…the kind you don’t live past nine months…”

First of all, has he spent the time since election day in the Kentucky Hinterlands without access to any news coverage?  If so, will somebody please let him know that we have a new sheriff in town by the name of Barack Obama who is not about to appoint a conservative judge to the Supreme Court if a vacancy should open up, no matter how much the good senator from Kentucky loves conservative judges.

It is well known here in Kentucky, that Sen. Jim Bunning suffers from a lack of intellectual curiosity, and regularly displays the insensitivity of an unsophisticated putz.  I guess he just can’t help himself and feels the need to prove his critics right from time to time, and his latest comment certainly fits that bill.

Now, a little bird told me that the National Republican Party is really tired of Sen. Bunning’s escapades, ineffectiveness, and questionable mental fitness, and is trying to challenge his seat with another Republican when he is up for re-election in 2010.  That should make for an interesting spectacle and soap opera…

I just hope that the good people of Kentucky are finally embarrassed enough to elect a wonderful Democrat to represent us, somebody, we can actually be proud of, somebody like our Attorney General Jack Conway…

And as far as Jim Bunning:  He suffers from ignorance…bad ignorance…the kind you don’t get better from…  🙂

Just Walk Away …..

images11

I want to use the much publicized altercation between Chris Brown and Rihanna as a reference to make a larger point.

Abuse, be it physical, mental or sexual, can happen with both, the female or male being the abuser.  The most likely scenario when it comes to physical abuse, is with the male being the abuser.  Unfortunately, abusive situations between teenage boyfriends and girlfriends are all too common, and if no intervention takes place, often continue into adulthood.  As abusive relationships are often complicated, the remedies on how to deal with them are not.

JUST  WALK  AWAY …..

If you are being abused by your partner, just walk away…literally…  End the relationship immediately!  Once the other person has crossed that line and has put his hands on you, it’s pretty much a preview of things to come.  It usually gets worse if you stay in the relationship and will cause you many heartaches, headaches and physical pain.  Sometimes it may even end in death…  You deserve better!  And no, he doesn’t love you, if he hurts you.  Love doesn’t hurt…  Abuse is a form of control, not love!  So, get out!!  But prepare yourself for that event, especially if it’s a very violent situation, as statistics have shown that the most dangerous time is at the time of separation.

If you have violent tendencies and either have abused your partner or are afraid that you may,

JUST  WALK  AWAY …..

Whenever you find yourself in a situation/fight/argument with your partner and feel an urge of putting your hands on her, just walk away…get out of the house, take a walk, calm down, stay somewhere else overnight if you need to, and don’t go back until your anger is gone and you have calmed down.  As a man, you may not like the idea of seeking counseling, but there are effective ways to deal with anger management, so that might be something to consider, before literally hurting somebody.  And no, she didn’t make you do it, because she did this, or said that…..  There is  NO  excuse for putting your hands on her, rather than just airing things out in a normal conversation/argument.  If you and your partner fight often and can’t come to terms with each other, maybe that’s a sign that you really shouldn’t be together…Just a thought…

But  NOTHING, absolutely  NOTHING  ever excuses violence …..

Man With A Mission :-)

images1

So I went out with my friend M. for a couple, make that three drinks…, last night, trying to solve the world’s problems again in about two hours…  🙂

As I don’t date (by choice  🙂  ), I live vicariously through her dating experiences…and sometimes, that’s just not a pretty picture.  Thinking about it, that’s probably one of the reasons I leave the soap opera of dating to others…  Well, we’ve had the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly when it comes to the men she’s been out with.  But I don’t think I laughed as hard before as I did last night, when she shared her latest dating experience with me.  K., also known as  ‘Man with a mission’  🙂 asked her out to dinner, and, according to her, it was very nice, wonderful conversation, chemistry, quite the gentleman.  So she happily agreed to a second date …

Well, that one went even better.  They went to one of the local wineries for a wine tasting and had a very enjoyable evening.  For the third date he wanted to come to her house (for the first time) to pick her up and as she felt quite comfortable with K., she agreed.  Right at eight, the doorbell rang and she opened the door to let him in.  But I don’t think she will forget the picture she was staring at for quite some time… There he was, smiling  at her with his pillow under his arm!  Now mind you, up to this point they had barely kissed, definitely no sex involved… How does it go?  A picture speaks a thousand words… Well, this picture certainly spoke volumes, and he didn’t have to say anything…

Now, there’s something to be said to bring your own pillow if the one at your lover’s house hurts your neck, but I’d say, you should at least wait until after you had sex and slept on that pillow a few times  :-).  She thought the same…  and I’m here to report… you guessed it… no fourth date.  She thought if he would do something weird like that, there’s a good chance that other things would follow…

I know why I’m not dating…  🙂

Fit And Healthy Seniors

exercise-routine-for-seniors-14          exercise-routine-for-seniors-22          exercise-routine-for-seniors-24

Let me just take a few minutes to tell you about the importance of physical exercise (including cardio and strength training with weights) not only in our younger years, but especially when we age.

It is estimated that unless we exercise our muscles regularly, we can lose five to seven pounds of muscle tissue each decade of our adult lives.  Add this to the amount of fat we gain because of a slow-down in our metabolism as we get older and you can see it becoming a real health problem.

The benefits of building and maintaining muscle mass through strength training are plenty:  From a better posture, a decrease in lower back pain, a faster metabolism, to the prevention of falls because of stronger ankle joints and leg muscles, to better being able to deal with everyday tasks like carrying groceries.

General health benefits of regular physical exercise include:

*Reducing the risk of coronary heart disease and diabetes
*Lowering of high blood pressure and reducing related health risks
*Relieving arthritis pain by promoting greater flexibility
*Increasing bone density, potentially preventing osteoporosis

In addition, exercising regularly will boost your self confidence, improve your appearance and lessen the threat of depression.

Because of these benefits, The American College of Sports Medicine and the American Heart Association have released new guidelines encouraging Americans of any age to strength-train at least twice a week on top of a regular cardio workout (brisk walk, swimming, treadmill, stationary bike) of at least 30 minutes on most days of the week in order to build and maintain a healthy body.

It is recommended that adults of any age perform one to three sets of eight to twelve repetitions each of eight to ten exercises using appropriate weight for their individual fitness level in order to exercise all major muscle groups (arms, shoulders, chest, back, upper legs and lower legs).

In order to maintain a healthy weight and be physically fit at any age, it is important that the physical exercise routine is used in conjunction with an overall healthy diet.

Before starting any weight loss and exercise program, experts suggest that you consult with your physician.

Republican Party — Irrelevant

caqp92jdcagnlc32caeivv6rca0aephccarw3pjbcaqmqfheca5owl6ocacpgm4fca1hbsmfcak5pgepcaj9wchicamxp5tocata1uqccasv2fl0caum25smcaang7c4calplhv5cab2wkra
Republican Party —
Full of C**P

Okay, I’ve come to the point now, where I’m losing a little patience, watching the sad Republican theater over the past few days.  It’s funny how things like spending enormous sums of money we didn’t have on ill advised tax cuts and an unnecessary war, and with it putting our nation in a horrible debt situation, didn’t quite matter that much over the past eight years.  Now, that President Obama is trying to stimulate the economy and with it creating badly needed jobs, we hear whining from the very same people who were defending tax cuts and expenditures in Iraq just a few months ago.  I have a word for that:  Hypocrites.  And I don’t know about you, but I’m allergic to them… Here’s my message to the more and more irrelevant Republican Party:

YOU  LOST.  DEMOCRATS  WON.  PRESIDENT  BARACK  OBAMA  IN  CHARGE.  ANY  QUESTIONS ??

….. That’s right!  We voted for  CHANGE  and rejected the  STATUS QUO  and with it your tired old ideas!  So why don’t you work on rebuilding a badly shattered party instead of whining?  As of right now, your party is a regional one, mainly located in the South and even there, Democrats under the leadership of President Obama have made inroads.  But the rest of the country is pretty much lost territory, and it will be even worse with the demographic changes on the horizon.  If you don’t want to completely become irrelevant, show the people with your actions, that you want the best for the country, for once, by working constructively with Democrats and President Obama.

GET  WITH  THE  PROGRAM… OTHERWISE  WE  WILL  VOTE  YOU  OUT !!!

We are partly in this terrible situation because of you and the Bush administration screwing things up so badly…..

images2

Special message to DICK Cheney who only took two weeks to now come out of his bunker criticizing President Obama:  Nobody wants to hear from you or Bush ever again, so go back to your bunker and lock the door.  When you warn about a fatal attack on the country while President Obama is in charge, you forgot to mention that 9/11 happened on your watch, and you were warned prior to the attack, and decided to do nothing.  Just some food for thought…  And in reference to you claiming a change in policies which includes getting rid of torture will cause such an attack, here’s an idea…  How about the brother of a guy who has been sitting in Guantanamo for five years and being tortured; or how about Al-Qaeda being able to reconstitute in the region between Pakistan and Afghanistan because you pulled out resources there; or how about the son from Iraq whose whole family has been killed…?  I think those are pretty good candidates to have ill feelings towards America…..

AND  YOU  ARE  RESPONSIBLE  FOR  THAT !!!
