Senator Jim Bunning
Boy, why does it seem that every time Kentucky makes national political news, it has to do with the ignorance and idiocy of one or both of our Republican Senators who unfortunately are representing the good people of Kentucky in the US Senate?
Latest example, Sen. Jim Bunning, whose mental fitness was already in question during his last re-election campaign, because of some very odd and strange behavior, now has totally gone off the cliff. In remarks over the weekend, for which he has apologized in the meantime, he affirmed his support for conservative judges by mentioning that one of the liberal judges on the Supreme Court, Ruth Bader Ginsberg is suffering from pancreatic cancer and Jim Bunning, with the charm he is known for, predicted her death before the year is out, and I quote “Ruth Bader Ginsberg suffers from cancer…bad cancer…the kind you don’t get better from…the kind you don’t live past nine months…”
First of all, has he spent the time since election day in the Kentucky Hinterlands without access to any news coverage? If so, will somebody please let him know that we have a new sheriff in town by the name of Barack Obama who is not about to appoint a conservative judge to the Supreme Court if a vacancy should open up, no matter how much the good senator from Kentucky loves conservative judges.
It is well known here in Kentucky, that Sen. Jim Bunning suffers from a lack of intellectual curiosity, and regularly displays the insensitivity of an unsophisticated putz. I guess he just can’t help himself and feels the need to prove his critics right from time to time, and his latest comment certainly fits that bill.
Now, a little bird told me that the National Republican Party is really tired of Sen. Bunning’s escapades, ineffectiveness, and questionable mental fitness, and is trying to challenge his seat with another Republican when he is up for re-election in 2010. That should make for an interesting spectacle and soap opera…
I just hope that the good people of Kentucky are finally embarrassed enough to elect a wonderful Democrat to represent us, somebody, we can actually be proud of, somebody like our Attorney General Jack Conway…
